In recognition of its superior sustainability features, Delfin Lend Lease’s newest residential address, Bingara Gorge, the $1 billion master planned community in Sydney’s south-west, has recently won two major Housing Industry Association-Boral GreenSmart Awards.

Along with project partner, Bradcorp, Delfin Lend Lease won the prestigious Design Concept Award and also took out the Partnership of the Year Award with Force 5, a company who delivers on-site recycling of up to 95% construction waste.

These awards follow Bingara Gorge’s recent accreditation as the Housing Industry Association’s first “GreenSmart Advanced Estate” in Australia.

“With 10 weeks until the opening, it is gratifying to receive this level of national recognition so early in the piece. These recent award wins are evidence of our commitment to quality design and excellence,” said Paul Gerlach, Project Director for Bingara Gorge.

Mr Gerlach explained that eco-friendly housing is an important new challenge that requires foresight, innovation and care. He said the Bingara Gorge project team has gone to great lengths to ensure that Bingara Gorge is at the cutting edge of environmental performance.

After nine years of careful planning and extensive community consultation, Bingara Gorge is taking shape, with its main entry parade, sales and information centre, café and first land release nearing completion.

The first aerial photograph of the construction site shows that Sydney’s most exciting new lifestyle community is quickly becoming a reality.

Delfin Lend Lease has spent more than $25 million on infrastructure works in the past 12 months to lay the groundwork for Bingara Gorge, providing in excess of 150 construction jobs in the local economy so far.

Bingara Gorge Project Director, Paul Gerlach, said that it was part of his company’s ethos to support the region through using local services and goods. “Over the course of development works, the economic and social impact will be profound by its stimulation of local businesses, suppliers and products.”

The image clearly shows the benefits of the $3.5 million already spend on upgrading the adjoining state roads to allow for a safer intersection at Condell Park Road, Hornby Street and Picton Road.

Mr Gerlach, said the new intersection and improved infrastructure, such as the upgrading of the water supply with a larger capacity, will benefit the whole of the Wilton community.

“The new intersection will provide a wider, better surfaced road, with a dedicated right turn lane to the freeway and a dedicated turn lane all the way from the freeway to the Bingara Gorge intersection.”

Money spent on development works so far are in preparation for the arrival of new residents who will be able to take advantage of a further $3 million to be spent on landscaping public areas and parks within the first land release. This will also include a practice golf hole for visitors and residents.

“Our practice golf hole will give visitors and early residents a taste of Ernie Els’ course design in 2008”.

The new Sales and Information Centre, café and community spaces are also nearing completion and will be open to enjoy in early November.

Bingara Gorge will preserve the area’s country feel, and the planting of around 80,000 trees will go a long way towards retaining the country lifestyle just 60 minutes from Sydney’s CBD.

At the same time, Bingara Gorge residents will have access to communications services and facilities far in advance of other residential developments, making it one of the most technologically advanced and “connected” new communities in Sydney.

Bingara Gorge will include 1,165 residential lots, a country club and 18-hole championship golf course designed by one of the world’s top-ranked golfers, Ernie Els. It will feature a school, childcare centre, village centre with shops and commercial uses, 18km of paths and trails and high-quality sporting facilities through the creation of 8ha of sports fields.

The fully master planned development has been designed to maximise views of open space and the golf course. About 80% of the housing lots will be more than 800 sqm.

“Bingara Gorge will be a place that people will be proud to call home,” Mr Gerlach said. “It will provide a benchmark for future residential developments on Sydney’s fringe in terms of quality, sustainability and lifestyle.”
